Cynthia Thompson Zuk

I am still working as a legal secretary in the Criminal Division of the St. Louis County Attorney's Office in Duluth.
A little over four years ago, I met Ron Zuk and am now a country girl living in Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, commuting to work 50 miles one-way (near Barnum and Moose Lake). Interstate 35 is an easy & pretty drive for the most part though, and I am very fortunate to have a job that allows me to take most Fridays off all year long. Fifty miles is just enough distance to get away from "cooler by the lake" in Duluth, if you know what I mean, and I just love that! I love Lake Superior, but as all Duluthians know, it is a love-hate relationship in the summertime.
When I am not working, I enjoy staying home and enjoying my country life (Ron has 200 acres as he used to run a dairy farm and now he owns his own landscaping business). I am very proud of his talents to switch careers. Self-employment is not easy and I think it takes a special person to do that. I have three horses (2 adult females and a 1-year-old female which I am going to try to train––should be interesting); other animals include: two dogs, cats, roosters, cows. I just love the mix of working in the city and returning home to the country.
Ron and I both enjoy the outdoors and can be found spending it in a variety of ways: four-wheeling, we love going to my cabin, fishing, I love boating, we snowmobile (they have great trails in Pine County), we have many campfires, and Ron will even horseback ride with me once in awhile.
Our families are also very important to both of us, and we try to get them all together as much as possible. Ron has two great kids: Ryan/17, and Katie/15, and I have 3 nieces and 4 nephews. One nephew, Jarrod–Christine’s son, is already an adult now (wow) and the rest of the kids are all under the age of 10 so I enjoy being auntie to all of them. I did not have any kids so I live through my three sisters' kids, Ron's kids, and my friends' kids, trying to spend as much time with everyone as possible.
This spring, Ron and I put in an above-ground swimming pool. This year, summer was sure slow in getting here, but we have enjoyed it so far and it is great entertainment for all the kids.
I don't find the time to exercise as often as I was five years ago and I really need to get back into that. Where does all the time go? Biking, blading, and walking used to be a regular form of exercise for me and now at 43 is not the time to stop those activities so one of my goals is to get back into the routine of exercise again.
Ron and I are planning a winter trip this year somewhere hot. I have the Caribbean on my mind!
I wish all the classmates a continued happy and healthy future, and here's to another 25.... 35...., heck, even 45 years!! I think these reunions will become even more fun with the passage of time.
