Sue (Dedon) Clingman

Feb 2009::

Hello Class of 79. I continue to live in Brookfield, WI and teach first grade in Milwaukee. I’m working on my 11th year at my school. My husband Steve and I celebrated our 25th anniversary in September. We have decided to chronicle 25 momentous events during our 25th year. We’re on number 10! At this stage, it takes a lot to make the list, but we’re working on it. We plan to finish with a trip to France in June.

Our daughter is currently studying abroad in Aix en Provence so we will have our own personal tour guide for much of our stay. She is a junior at UW Madison. Our son Andrew graduated from the Naval Academy in 2008 and is now living in Charleston, SC going to Nuclear Power School. He will eventually end up on a submarine and will serve for another four years in the Navy, unless he decided to make a career out of this. The commissioning and graduation in Annapolis was a true highlight of my life, if you ever get a chance to go…They do it up pretty fine.

My interests haven’t changed much in five years. I am still involved in my church and music is a big part of my life. I love to hike, cross country ski, drink good coffee and dark red wine, kayak, and read. I still cook and bake but with two people it’s not quite as much fun. However, I’m determined not to give it up completely. My class of first graders are usually eager recipients of my baking.

We are blessed to have a wonderful circle of friends here in Brookfield and since we’re all transplants we celebrate a lot together. I am really looking forward to celebrating at our 30th reunion and hope to see many of you there!

News from Sue Dedon Clingman's life.

I am living in Brookfield, WI (west of Milwaukee) and have for six years.

I teach first grade in Milwaukee, largely Hispanic so my three years of German come in very handy. ha ha

When I'm not teaching I work with kids at our church directing two youth choirs. It's fun most of the time. We put on a big musical this year and thankfully, it was a success. Boy do I appreciate what Ray Baker did!

I also spend time with our dogs, have coffee with friends, love to see plays and movies and enjoy baking and cooking. We're down one kid in the house now, so I have to learn how to downsize my baking and cooking a bit. No more 9x13 casseroles for me!

We brought Andrew our oldest to college last week.He graduated from Brookfield East High School and is attending the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Andrew was inducted on June 30. It was very cool and an extremely proud day for us. As I write this, we are waiting for his first call home. I miss him and look forward to the trips we will be making out east. Go Navy Beat Army!!

Megan is 16 and going to be a junior this year. She's driving, working, and best of all going to France this summer. It'll be a taste of "empty nest" for a few weeks. Not sure I'm ready for it yet. We're gearing up for another year of college visits, SAT and ACT tests and general fun about that. I'm hoping she'll at least consider Hamline but she's determined to go to New York City or "anywhere but the Midwest!" We'll see what happens.

My husband Steve is an ELCA Lutheran pastor at a church in Brookfield. He and I celebrated 20 years of marriage by taking a trip to Hawaii with some good friends also celebrating 20 years. He's a pretty busy guy but manages some time playing golf (a game I haven't jumped into yet) and tennis. We're looking forward to more travel in the near future.

Best wishes to everyone. Here's to the class of 1979!
